Font for my comic
Every time I post a new comic strip I’m worried about the text in it. My handwriting isn’t good and people could struggle to understand some words. Even if I haven’t get any critique about it, I thought to create a new font from scratch.
The web is plenty of free fonts, even for commercial use, but to avoid the mess of licenses I decided to build up mine. It’s a work in progress, however I succeeded in exporting, installing and using the font. Below a screenshot.
As you can see, the font is based on my handwriting and there are only uppercase letters (because I used them in the comic), numbers and the most important symbols.
I used 3 software on linux to achieve this result:
- krita to handraw the characters (you can use any drawing tool, even pencil & paper and then scan it)
- inkscape to convert the .png file (raster) into an .svg (vector) and adjust every symbol
- fontforge to assign every image to the corresponding char code and export a font file
I will make the font downloadable soon.
